Blue Jays Make Bold Moves Ahead of Trade Deadline

Turner and Kikuchi Traded

Changes Brewing in Toronto?

The Toronto Blue Jays have made two major trades ahead of Tuesday's MLB Trade Deadline, sending outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners and starting pitcher Yimi Garcia to the Houston Astros. In return, the Blue Jays have acquired infielder Noelvi Marte and pitcher Matt Brash from the Mariners, and shortstop Jake Meyers from the Astros.

These trades come as the Blue Jays sit with a disappointing 29-32 record, leaving them in the cellar of the AL East division. While it was widely expected that the Blue Jays would be sellers at the deadline, the trades of Hernandez and Garcia suggest that the team may be looking to make more significant changes.

Hernandez, a two-time All-Star, has been a key part of the Blue Jays' offense in recent years. His departure creates a significant hole in the team's lineup, but it also frees up some salary space that could be used to acquire other players. Garcia, meanwhile, was a solid contributor to the Blue Jays' bullpen, but his departure will give the team an opportunity to explore other options.

The Blue Jays have not yet announced any other trades, but they are reportedly still in discussions with several teams. It is possible that the team could make additional moves before the deadline in an effort to improve their chances of contending in 2023 and beyond.
