Soybean Acreage Growth in Brazil to Slow in 2024/25 Season
Slower Expansion Projected for Leading Global Producer
Minimal Increase Expected Amid Low Prices and Economic Challenges
The acreage allocated for soybean cultivation in Brazil, the world's top producer and exporter, is projected to increase at a slower rate during the 2024/25 season. This slowdown is attributed to several factors, including low global soybean prices and economic challenges facing the country.
Despite the expected slowdown, Brazil is still forecasted to sow a record soybean crop in mid-September. However, the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture predicts only a slight increase in acreage compared to previous years.
The deceleration in soybean acreage growth in Brazil is largely driven by low prices and increased competition from other agricultural commodities. Additionally, economic headwinds, such as rising production costs and inflation, are also impacting the expansion of soybean cultivation.
