A's win 11-4 over the Cubs

The Athletics defeated the Cubs 11-4 Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. Oakland scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back. Matt Olson and Jed Lowrie each homered for the A's, who have won four of their last five games. Kris Bryant homered for the Cubs, who have lost four of their last five games.

The A's got off to a fast start against Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks. Marcus Semien singled to lead off the game, and Olson followed with a two-run homer to right field. Lowrie then singled, and Matt Chapman doubled to make it 3-0. After a walk to Robbie Grossman, Ramon Laureano singled in Lowrie to make it 4-0. Mark Canha then doubled in Chapman to make it 5-0.

The Cubs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a solo homer by Bryant. But the A's added two more runs in the second inning on a double by Olson and a single by Lowrie to make it 7-1.

The Cubs scored two more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Jason Heyward and an RBI single by Anthony Rizzo to make it 7-3. But the A's got those runs back in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Chapman to make it 9-3.

The Cubs added one more run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Rizzo to make it 9-4. But the A's added two more runs in the seventh inning on a single by Laureano and a sacrifice fly by Canha to make it 11-4.

A's starter Sean Manaea pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out seven batters. Yusmeiro Petit pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. He struck out three batters. Liam Hendriks pitched the ninth inning, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. He struck out two batters.

Hendricks pitched five innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out six batters. Brad Wieck pitched one inning in relief, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk. He struck out one batter. Rex Brothers pitched one inning in relief, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. He struck out two batters.
