Sir Alex Fergusons Son Sends Blunt League One Promotion Message To Wrexham

Sir Alex Ferguson's son sends blunt League One promotion message to Wrexham

Darren Ferguson issues warning to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side

Wrexham must prove they can handle the pressure of being 'always being spoken and written about'

Sir Alex Ferguson's son Darren has issued a blunt warning to Wrexham ahead of their League Two play-off campaign.

The Dragons, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are bidding to reach League One for the first time in almost two decades.

But Darren Ferguson, who managed Wrexham's rivals Peterborough United until January, believes the club must not get carried away by the hype surrounding them.

"They're always being spoken and written about, and that's something they're going to have to learn to deal with," Ferguson told BBC Sport.

"They've got a lot of quality in their squad, but they need to make sure they can handle the pressure that comes with being the favorites.

"If they can do that, then they've got a great chance of promotion."

Wrexham will face Oldham Athletic in the first leg of their play-off semi-final on Thursday evening.

The Dragons finished second in League Two this season, two points behind champions Forest Green Rovers.

They have won their last four matches and are unbeaten in their last eight.

Oldham, meanwhile, finished seventh in League Two and won their play-off quarter-final against Torquay United.

The second leg of the semi-final will be played at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground on Sunday afternoon.

The winners of the tie will face either Grimsby Town or Solihull Moors in the final at Wembley Stadium on June 5.
